TEXTRA! Read All About it! Never give another presentation!

TEXTRA! is a well-tested methodology to use when it is important that all participants are aligned on a body of “Subject Matter” to be able to continue with their work. The big advantage of TEXTRA! is that it ensures participants are keenly engaged in the topic and will be well aligned on the key distinctions related to the topic or theme participants are working on. The workshop will be a live demonstration in which participants will learn the TEXTRA! facilitation process by actually doing it.

“Is the Post in post-colonialism over?”
by Ms. Sunanda Pandit (Robert Bosch India)

Synopsis of the learning event

This question seems all the more relevant as India emerges on the threshold of foregoing its over 200 years old colonial past and embracing a economically empowered new India. Postcolonial Studies in this context has always sought to reclaim significances for people from the non - European World through texts and cultural productions by which they define themselves. Postcolonial studies; an ever burgeoning theoretical approach in literary and cultural studies owes its origin to the anti - colonial politics of nationalist thinkers like Frantz Fanon and M.K Gandhi. In the context of 21st century new Imperialism, it is clear that the urgency of postcolonial agendas has not diminished.

Post-colonialism can be broadly traced back to three historical and cultural genealogies. The first was the radical and libratory nationalism of anti - colonialists like Fanon, Ngugi wa Thiong, Aurobindo, Memmi and Gandhi. The second phase began with Edward Said's definitive book Orientalism. Derived from the deconstructive practice of French post - structuralists like Foucault, Derrida and Lacan it gave way to shaping postcolonial theories of critics like Said, Gayatri Spivak, Homi Babha, Stuart Hall, Leela Gandhi, Ania Loomba and others. The third strand is a result of the creative challenges posed by postcolonial literary writes like V.S Naipaul, Wilson Harris, Amos Tutuola, Salman Rushdie who challenge the construct of the European novel and the Western understanding of the real world.

In this framework, I will be dealing with the work of the Indian born critic Homi Bhabha whose work came into prominence in the mid - 1980s. Homi Bhabha suggests a rereading of the colonial experience and the issues of colonial identity. His theory of cultural difference and ambivalent colonial discourse deals with the problematic category of the east versus the west. In suggesting an essentially homogenous nature of the West and the Orient, he allows one to explore the inherent contradictions of the Orient and the West. His theory of Cultural difference proposes complex identities; a new inter - nationalism. To sum up, Homi Bhabha leaves us with the question - In a World where difference is the primary category , how do we create associations beyond national interests ?

"Negotiations across Cultures - A conversation on Relationship"

We negotiate often in our daily lives. Some of those may be trivial and may not deserve care and conscious thought. But many do. The strange thing is that people rarely realize they are negotiating.
The Objective of today’s conversation is to try to get an insight, understanding and appreciation into two fundamental aspects of negotiations. The "Outcome" and The "Relationship".
That is the mantra as a negotiator. Understanding these will facilitate journeying, into the vast subject of negotiations, easier.
